Sanand, Gujarat , India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kaynes Semicon facility at Sanand GIDC in Gujarat, marking a key moment in India’s push to strengthen its semiconductor capabilities. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel was also present at the event along with senior officials and industry leaders.
The facility has been set up by Kaynes Technology and focuses on semiconductor assembly and testing. It is part of the broader India Semiconductor Mission, which aims to position the country as a reliable hub for chip manufacturing. The plant adds to India’s growing infrastructure in this sector, following earlier developments involving Micron Technology.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister spoke about India’s expanding role in the global semiconductor ecosystem. He emphasized that Indian companies are steadily becoming important contributors to the global supply chain and will help build a more stable and dependable system in the years ahead. He also noted that the start of production at this facility reflects India’s emergence as a trusted partner in semiconductor manufacturing.
A key moment during the inauguration was the presentation of a Made in India semiconductor product. The Prime Minister, along with Ramesh Kannan Kothandaraman, founder and Managing Director of Kaynes Technology, handed over the product to Stephen Chang, CEO of Alpha and Omega Semiconductor. This exchange symbolized India’s growing strength in advanced manufacturing and its increasing collaboration with global technology companies.
During his visit, the Prime Minister also interacted with employees and people present at the facility, acknowledging their contribution to the project. The interaction highlighted the human effort behind the development of such large scale technological infrastructure.
The Kaynes Semicon plant is expected to support multiple industries including electronics, electric vehicles, telecommunications, and industrial manufacturing. With global demand for semiconductors continuing to rise, the facility is likely to play an important role in meeting both domestic and international needs.
The inauguration reflects India’s larger vision of becoming self reliant in critical technologies while also strengthening its position in global supply chains. It shows a clear direction toward building capacity, encouraging innovation, and expanding industrial growth.
Sanand is gradually developing into a major center for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, supported by strong infrastructure and policy support. The establishment of this facility is expected to attract further investment and create new employment opportunities.
With operations beginning at the Kaynes Semicon plant, India takes another step forward in establishing itself as a key player in the global semiconductor industry.
