Pune, Maharashtra:

Pune Municipal Corporation Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram addressed concerns following recent heavy rainfall in the city, stating that the Disaster Management Committee was not at fault while outlining the steps being taken by civic authorities to assess damage and plan further action.

Speaking in Pune, the Commissioner emphasized that a comprehensive review meeting was conducted involving senior officials and civic authorities to evaluate the situation. “The Disaster Management Committee was not at fault. Here, the Pune municipal authorities, along with me, the commissioners, and all officials, held a meeting to assess the rainfall over the past two days and the resulting losses, and to plan our strategy going forward,” he said.

The city has witnessed significant rainfall over the past couple of days, leading to waterlogging in several areas and disruption of normal life. Civic teams have been deployed across affected zones to monitor conditions, clear drainage systems, and ensure that essential services remain operational.

The Commissioner’s statement comes amid growing public concern over the impact of heavy rains and questions regarding preparedness and response mechanisms. By clarifying the role of the Disaster Management Committee, he sought to address criticism and reassure citizens that the administration is actively managing the situation.

During the review meeting, officials assessed the extent of damage caused by the rainfall, including its impact on infrastructure, roads, and residential areas. Strategies were also discussed to improve response time and strengthen preventive measures in case of further adverse weather conditions.

The Pune Municipal Corporation has initiated efforts to mitigate the impact of the rains, including deploying emergency teams, monitoring vulnerable locations, and coordinating with other departments to ensure a swift response. Authorities are also keeping a close watch on weather updates to remain prepared for any further developments.

The focus remains on minimizing damage, restoring normalcy, and ensuring the safety of residents as the city navigates the effects of unpredictable weather patterns. Officials have urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and follow advisories issued during such conditions.

The recent rainfall has once again highlighted the challenges faced by urban centers during sudden weather changes, emphasizing the need for robust infrastructure and efficient disaster management systems.

As the situation continues to be monitored, civic authorities have assured that all necessary measures are being taken to address the impact and prevent further disruption in the city.
