Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple weather alerts across Maharashtra, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds in several districts on Friday.
According to the IMD’s latest district-wise forecast, the ghat regions of Pune remain under a Red Alert, while several parts of the Konkan region and western Maharashtra are under Orange and Yellow Alerts due to the likelihood of intense rainfall and gusty winds.
Authorities have advised residents to remain alert and follow official weather advisories as heavy rain may disrupt transport and daily activities.
The IMD has placed the ghat regions of Pune under a Red Alert, forecasting:
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall at several locations.
- Extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places.
- Strong winds of 50–60 km/h, with gusts reaching 70 km/h.
The weather department has urged people in vulnerable areas to exercise caution due to the increased risk of landslides and localized flooding.
An Orange Alert has been issued for:
- Palghar
- Thane
- Raigad
- Nashik Ghat Region
- Satara Ghat Region
These areas are expected to receive:
- Heavy to very heavy rainfall.
- Strong winds of 50–60 km/h, gusting up to 70 km/h.
Residents have been advised to monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
Mumbai continues to remain under a Yellow Alert, with the IMD forecasting:
- Heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
- Occasional strong winds of 50–60 km/h, gusting up to 70 km/h.
A similar weather warning has also been issued for Ratnagiri, where isolated heavy rainfall is expected. While widespread disruption is not anticipated, localized waterlogging and traffic congestion may occur during heavy showers.
According to the IMD forecast:
- Sindhudurg is expected to receive moderate rainfall on Friday, followed by heavy rainfall at isolated places over the weekend.
- Raigad is likely to continue experiencing heavy rainfall over the next few days before conditions gradually improve.
The Konkan region remains one of the most weather-sensitive areas during the southwest monsoon.
The weather department has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied by:
- Lightning.
- Light to moderate rainfall.
- Gusty winds of 40–50 km/h.
The forecast applies to:
- Nandurbar
- Nashik
Meanwhile:
- Dhule
- Jalgaon
are likely to experience light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms.
Pune city itself is expected to receive moderate rainfall.
The IMD has cautioned that persistent heavy rainfall may result in:
- Localized flooding.
- Flash floods in vulnerable areas.
- Waterlogging.
- Landslides in hilly regions.
- Disruptions to road, rail, air, and ferry services.
- Rough sea conditions.
- Damage to crops and weak structures.
