Pune, Maharashtra, India
Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) MP Supriya Sule on Thursday visited Phule Wada in Pune to pay tribute to social reformers Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule on the occasion of Jyotiba Phule’s 200th birth anniversary.
Sule offered floral tributes at the historic site, which is closely associated with the life and work of the Phule family. The visit forms part of nationwide commemorations marking the bicentenary of Jyotiba Phule, a pioneering figure in India’s social reform movement.
Jyotiba Phule is widely known for his efforts toward social equality, the upliftment of marginalized communities, and his strong advocacy for education. His contributions were complemented by Savitribai Phule, who is regarded as India’s first woman teacher and a trailblazer in women’s education.
Phule Wada in Pune remains a significant landmark, symbolising the reformist legacy of the Phule couple and their role in shaping progressive thought in Indian society.
Leaders across political parties have been paying homage to Jyotiba Phule on this occasion, recognising his enduring influence on social justice, education, and empowerment.
The tribute by Supriya Sule reflects the continued relevance of the Phule legacy, as India marks 200 years since the birth of one of its foremost social reformers.
