Pune, Maharashtra, India

In a significant initiative aimed at empowering women, Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, announced the launch of the ‘Mission Asmita’ project in Pune, dedicated to supporting women police personnel and strengthening women’s empowerment across sectors.

Speaking at the event, Amruta Fadnavis expressed her enthusiasm about extending the initiative beyond Mumbai. “Today, I am delighted that we are organising this special program for the women police personnel of Pune. The ‘Mission Asmita’ project is being launched through the Divyaj Foundation,” she said, highlighting that the program had previously seen success in Mumbai and is now being expanded.

The initiative focuses on the well-being and empowerment of women in the police force, who work tirelessly to ensure public safety. Various programs under Mission Asmita include health awareness, yoga sessions, and schemes aimed at economic empowerment, acknowledging the demanding roles these personnel undertake daily.

“We all remain safe because we have our police force, and this program is dedicated specifically to them,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of supporting those who safeguard society. She also revealed that the initiative is set to expand further, with plans underway to introduce it in Nagpur and other regions.

A key highlight of her address was the focus on rural women’s empowerment. Amruta Fadnavis announced that the Divyaj Foundation will now actively work towards enhancing economic opportunities for women in rural areas, marking a broader outreach beyond urban centers.

Encouraging self-reliance among women, she delivered a strong message on confidence and independence. “For women, the most essential thing is to have faith in themselves. When one possesses self-confidence, there is absolutely no need for shortcuts or reliance on fraudulent godmen,” she said, urging women to trust their own abilities.

Addressing a separate issue, she also spoke firmly about the case involving Ashok Kharat, calling for strict action. “Strict action must be taken—and indeed, it will be taken… that family should be socially boycotted,” she remarked, reflecting a strong stance on accountability.

In a political note, Amruta Fadnavis extended her support to Sunetra Pawar ahead of upcoming by-elections. “Sunetra Pawar is set to file her nomination; I extend my very best wishes to her. Everyone should come forward to support her,” she said.

The launch of Mission Asmita in Pune marks a significant step toward recognizing the contributions of women police personnel while simultaneously expanding efforts to empower women across both urban and rural landscapes.
