PUNE, MAHARASHTRA — Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the decision to provide 33 percent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies is a true tribute to the ideals of Jyotirao Phule, particularly his vision of women’s education and empowerment.

Speaking at Khanwadi village in Purandar taluka, the native place of Mahatma Phule, Fadnavis made these remarks during the inauguration of the ‘Jyoti–Savitri Zilla Parishad School,’ a modern educational institution established as part of the bicentennial birth anniversary celebrations of Phule.

He emphasized that the decision led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant 33 percent reservation for women aligns directly with the progressive thoughts of Mahatma Phule, calling it a meaningful and historic step toward women’s empowerment.

The newly inaugurated school is being seen as a landmark initiative in rural education. Fadnavis highlighted that this institution represents the most appropriate beginning of the bicentennial celebrations, bringing modern and high-quality education to students in rural Maharashtra. Built on a CBSE pattern, the school offers education from Class 1 to Class 12, making it the first of its kind under the Zilla Parishad system in the state.

He further noted that the school aims to provide international-standard education and opportunities to rural students. According to him, such initiatives are crucial in nurturing talent, with some students already reaching prestigious institutions like ISRO and NASA, reflecting the growing aspirations and capabilities of young learners, especially girls.

The event was attended by several senior leaders, including Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, along with other members of the state cabinet, marking it as a significant occasion in Maharashtra’s educational and social development journey.

Fadnavis reiterated that empowering women through education and representation is the strongest way to honor the legacy of Mahatma Phule, whose vision continues to guide modern India’s path toward equality and progress.
